Golden Autumn in the Engadin

by Ava-Sophie | Oct 29, 2026 | Potpourri | 0 comments

I have now experienced the Engadin in the fall for the first time. I wasn't promised too much. It really was breathtakingly beautiful, even though it rained on some days. Fortunately, Sils also offers plenty of lovely ways to spend your time when the weather is rainy.

I visited the photography exhibition "Sils through the ages" at the municipal hall, an exhibition about Annemarie Schwarzenbach titled "Toward other skies" at the Sils Museum, and a special exhibition at the Nietzsche House about my darling and his travels.

I also bought two red umbrellas at the Nietzsche House. Friedrich was known for always carrying a red umbrella with him, which protected him not only from the rain but also from the sun. He had very light-sensitive eyes. I kept one umbrella and hid the other one for Friedrich on the peninsula. Yes, I brought an umbrella to a dead man. No, that's not weird.

I was also very well taken care of when it came to food in Sils, and to my great delight, I managed to get my hands on a few of the last goat cheeses from Isola. The Mascarpin is made by a family based in Isola (https://www.isola-capra.ch), and you can buy it either directly from them or at the Volg supermarket in Sils. I can only recommend that everyone give this cheese a try. It's absolutely heavenly. You need a bit of luck, though, as it's frequently sold out and only available from May to October.

I didn't try the "truly most beautiful, finest, and largest cream slice in Sils," but I found the sign so cute that I just had to take a picture of it.

Sils, you most wonderful of places, it was an absolute pleasure, as always 🥰!
