Every two to three months I spend some days in Vienna, to visit family and friends. I never announce my stays publicly, as they are primarily private in nature, yet every now and then I still meet someone for a date. This time it was with a gentleman I have met several times before, who happened to be in Austria at the same time as I was.
One evening we spent at the Vienna State Opera. To be precise, we only stayed for the first half of the performance, since neither of us was particularly impressed and decided during the intermission that we could make far better use of the evening. To be even more precise, I already knew that beforehand, but the gentleman wouldn’t listen to me 🤷♀️. Still, the magnificent setting of the State Opera made our short visit worthwhile.
The second evening we enjoyed at Restaurant Amador, one of only two three-star restaurants in all of Austria. Switzerland, by the way, has two more, though I haven't been to any of them yet (consider this a little hint 😉). At Amador, neither of us felt any urge to leave the "performance" early, because it was an absolutely fantastic experience. During a few of the courses, I almost started crying because it was just so incredibly good 🥹. The flavors are beyond words, so I won’t even try to describe them.
Of course, I had to point out to the gentleman that my ideas are much better than his, since I was the one who suggested the restaurant, while the opera was his choice. Since he knows that I like being praised, he went ahead and did so. In any case, I want to give a strong recommendation to anyone visiting Vienna who appreciates outstanding and creative cuisine in a beautiful setting - don’t miss out on Amador!
